Abstract

Background: Carrots are a rich source of beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A that plays an essential role in maintaining visual function and ocular health.

Objective: This article reviews the potential benefits of carrot consumption in supporting eye health and preventing vision-related disorders.

Methods: A narrative review of published literature regarding the nutritional composition of carrots and their relationship to visual health was conducted.

Results: Carrots contain beta-carotene, antioxidants, dietary fiber, and other nutrients that contribute to normal visual function. Adequate vitamin A intake may help prevent night blindness and support the health of the cornea and retina.

Conclusion: Regular consumption of carrots as part of a balanced diet may contribute to maintaining healthy vision and overall ocular health. Further research is needed to evaluate the long-term effects of carrot consumption on specific ophthalmic conditions.
